SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE

Serving people to live in dignity and peace.

Spirit in Action is the social justice group was formed to serve people in our community, across the country and throughout the world to live in dignity and peace. Among the issues addressed are homelessness, immigration, women’s rights, equality for all, gun control, refugees – just to name a few. We join with other organizations working in these areas.

Our mission: Connect with the community to insure love and equality to all that are in need of light. We meet Second Sunday of the month after second gathering in the office. Contact Viraj Ward via our contact page for questions.

Helping Refugees

Please consider helping our refugee population by purchasing much needed items. These items are placed in Welcome Baskets as they move into their new homes here in San Diego and rebuild their lives. If you would like more information on Helping Empower Community Refugees, visit them on their Facebook.

Volunteer with PATH

PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) is a local non-profit organization that provides multiple services to the unsheltered in San Diego. Each day, PATH volunteers prepare, cook and deliver meals to the guests staying at the downtown facility.

Global Heart Tithe

In accord with our intention to actively participate in the universal flow of abundance, Universal Spirit Center awards grants totaling 10% of all incoming donations. These grants, collectively known as our Global Heart Tithe, are all made in the name of our spiritual community.

North Park Lions Club

We enjoy an active service partnership with NP Lions as a benefit of previously sharing their space for Sunday gatherings. Some of the projects in the works are those that serve local schools and students from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as delivering fresh produce from the San Diego Food Bank to the schools for parents to pick up when they pick up their children as well as other needs. Lions Club International is a service membership organization of over 1.7 million members worldwide, with programs which include sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues and many others.

Paper Bag Ministry

Each month, we fill bags with water, snacks and personal hygiene products. We collect the filled bags and share them with PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) or you can take bags with you and distribute them personally when you come across someone that may want one.
